Starting point Enkhuizen Station 51 afbeelding

Walking through Enkhuizen is walking through the Golden Age. The town flourished in the 17th century, mainly due to its profitable herring fishing. Everywhere in the town centre there are still buildings that recall those days. Most famous is the Drommedaris, a fortified tower from 1540. Also from that time are the Spuihuisje on Zuiderspui, the former Peperhuis, which now houses the Zuiderzee Museum, the Town Hall on Breedstraat, the city prison on Het Glop, the orphanage on Westerstraat and the Koepoort on the western rampart. At the Buitenhaven, dozens of old fishing boats and three-masters are moored. Immerse yourself in a piece of Dutch history. And if you can't get enough, visit the Zuiderzee Museum, where you can learn all about this past but not forgotten time.

  • The Drommedaris Route (blue) takes you through the old city centre. You walk along the Old Harbour and the famous Drommedaris, a fortified tower from the 16th century. Beautiful are the many Renaissance gables and the façade of the former orphanage on Westerstraat. The route also leads over the ramparts of the Boerenhoek and past the monumental Koepoort.
  • Also during the Rondje Zuiderzeemuseum (yellow) you will walk over the city walls and past the Drommedaris and the Koepoort. Moreover, you will pass the picturesque houses of the Zuiderzee Museum where you can immerse yourself in Zuiderzee history. At Enkhuizerzand, you will walk along the waters of what is now called IJsselmeer for a while.
