De route gaat over het bolwerk en door de Alkmaarderhout, waar veel stinsenplanten staan. Deze voorjaarbloeiers groeien vooral bij oude boerderijen, in parken en op begraafplaatsen. Vandaar de naam: ‘stins’ betekent (in het Fries) ‘stenen huis’.
