De route is een ‘ommetje Uitgeest’ richting Castricum. Het zuidelijkste stukje van de route gaat door Assum, een oud buurtschap, ontstaan op de rand van de strandwal. De geschiedenis van Assum gaat veel verder terug dan die van Uitgeest: rond 450 v.Chr. lag er al een nederzetting. Daardoor zijn er veel belangrijke archeologische vondsten gedaan en is Assum aangemerkt als beschermde archeologische zone.
